Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves breathing oxygen in a pressurised chamber under controlled conditions.

At Longevity Clinics, HBOT is offered following an individual assessment to determine whether the service is appropriate for you. Your practitioner will discuss your health history, goals, suitability and any relevant risks before treatment.

During an HBOT session, you relax inside a pressurised chamber while breathing oxygen. Treatment duration and pressure are determined according to the individual’s assessment and the protocols used at our clinic.

HBOT Consultation

HBOT may be considered as part of an individual’s healthcare or wellness plan where appropriate. Suitability is determined following an individual assessment.

Your practitioner will discuss:

  • Your health history and current circumstances
  • Your goals and expectations
  • Suitability for HBOT
  • Potential risks and precautions
  • The recommended session approach
  • Any relevant follow-up

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HBOT Safe?

HBOT is a non-invasive procedure performed under clinical protocols. Most individuals experience ear pressure in the chamber, similar to that of a flight, or some tiredness after. Some feel more alert instead. Comprehensive medical screening prior to treatment helps identify contraindications and ensure patient safety. The staff will be present the entire time, observing the monitors and you, and thus you will not be alone with a machine running.

How long does a session take?

Typically an hour or half an hour. Mask sessions are more likely to be shorter, chamber sessions may last longer. It does not require the entire day and this is why many people visit during breaks or after work. And you walk out the same day and continue.

How many sessions will I need?

It really depends on the person and the reason for coming. The number of sessions varies depending on your clinical circumstances and treatment goals. Your practitioner will recommend an individual treatment plan following assessment. Responses to treatment vary between individuals.

At Longevity Clinics, the staff look at your case and shape a plan, but it isn’t fixed forever, it can be changed once they see how your body reacts over time.

How is it different from hospital oxygen?

Hospital oxygen is for survival, to keep someone stable when breathing is failing. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy differs from oxygen therapy used in hospital settings. Your practitioner will explain how HBOT works, when it may be considered, and whether it is appropriate for your individual circumstances.
